We Do 2.0- Sending Messages Bot

Today I researched more information on our bot and the activity.

We Do 2.0 Lego Learning Activity.

Design Thinking Model-

·         Empathize- seek understanding. (Question Everything)

·         Define- role/objectives, and challenges.

·         Ideate- share ideas, prioritize.

·         Prototype- Keep it simple, make a mockup, build, and learn.

·         Test- What works, what doesn’t, Show/don’t tell.

1.       Activity Guide: (include microteaching videos, Table of Contents in blog

2.       ISTE Standards: (Choose two or more of the standards to highlight in your portfolio.)

SENDING MESSAGES-

A project about designing a solution for exchanging information using a system of signals organized in patterns.

                Materials needed:

·         We Do a 2.0 Lego Core Kit.

·         A computer or laptop- (To be used to code and communicate with a bot)

·         Download the We Do 2.0 Software or programming app.

·         A fun willingness to explore and learn.

Objective:

                The students will-

·         Explore how messages can be transferred from one place to another.

·         Create and program a joystick that will allow you to send messages by using codes.

·         Test your program and invent new ways to exchange information.

·         Share your program and ideas for how to succeed in this project with others.

·         The students will use sensors (inputs), loops, and parallel programming.

Standards/Expectations:

(Physical Sciences- 4-PS-4-3) (Engineering, Technology, and Applied Science 3-5ETS1.1, ETS1.2, ETS1.3)

Waves: Waves of information (4-PS4-1) To Develop a model of waves to describe patterns in terms of amplitude and wavelength, and that waves can cause objects to move or make sound.

                Engineering (3-5 ETS1.1-1.3)

·         3-5 ETS 1.1- To Define a simple design problem reflecting a need that includes specified criteria for success, and constraints on materials, time, or costs.

·         3-5 ETS 1.2- Generate and compare multiple, possible solutions to a problem based on how well each meets the criteria and constraints of the problem.

·         3-5 ETS 1.3- Plan and carry out fair tests in which variables are controlled and failure points are considered to identify aspects of the model or prototype that can be improved.

Guided Project Overview-

1.       Students will ask questions and define a problem.

2.       Use mathematics and computational thinking.

3.       Students will construct explanations and design a solution.

4.       Students will engage in arguments from evidence.

5.       Students will obtain, evaluate, and communicate information.

TELLO Drone Programing and notes

Below is a step-by-step notation of the information to program the TELLO drone. While learning how to program this drone I also learned several new vocabulary words that I have listed below. This would be a great starting point as to give students background knowledge before jumping into the program and coding.  Drone Blocks Programming Notes- Vocabulary-Terms to introduce-                 Blocks- a lexical structure of code source which is grouped together                 Code- a set of instructions that tells a computer what to do.                  Hover- to remain in one place in the air.                  Yaw- the rotation around a vertical axis. (When used in aviation...

METRO Team Teach Ready- Tello Drone and We Do 2.0

On 09/26/23 my partner Alex and myself will be participating in an after-school program at Metro Elementary  School. During the time frame of 4:15 to 5:30 we will be given the opportunity to teach students about the We Do 2.0 Bot and the Tello Drone. To prepare for this Alex and myself have come up with the following breakdown of time to use as a guideline during our teaching. We have also come up with the idea of using anchor charts to help describe some of the verbiage and background knowledge to the students. Another hands-on activity that we thought might be good for the students was to print out some “code” pieces and let the students work on building their own code in groups. This way they can participate hands-on without the use of the computer to better understand the concept of coding. At the end of each 25-minute session, the students will get a demonstration of what their drone or bot does to see it in action. Some of the standards we will be working on during...

I-Create Lab exploration

Today as a class we explored the I-create lab as part of the TAMU-CC campus. My team partner and I decided to work with the 3-D printer and the CNC machine.  The machines: we will be working with are a 3D printer and a CNC machine. Plan: The is to use the 3D printer to create a trellis and labels for the plants. We are going to use resin as a material. Also, we plan to use a CNC machine to create a hands-on puzzle to make a flower/insect that aligns with the STAR Hero Journey/TEKS.  The idea : Students will discover how plants grow with support. The trellis will be created as a support for the plants similar to how education and new information are scaffolded. The students will then also create and design labels for each of their individual plants that they will be able to take home. In addition, the student will have a hands-on puzzle project (built using the CNC machine) to put together related to the TEK we have chosen and integrated within our STAR hero journey sto...
